Monday, March 31st, 2008If you still haven’t seen the Strikeforce middleweight title fight between Frank Shamrock and Cung Le you can watch it for free at one of my favorite MMA sites mmascraps.com.
mmascraps.com does a good job of posting events right after they happen. I don’t know if it’s legal or not, but it’s not my site so good for them!

So…. this was a bad week. WEC 33 killed me. 7 out of 8 favorites won. That’s pretty ridiculous. My lock of the week Logan Clark came through. So my locks of the week are now 2/2. Cung Le was able to defeat Shamrock in what I consider to be the best fight of the week. They went to war, but Cung Le was able to pull out a victory after breaking Shamrock’s arm in the third round.

Joey Villasenor is an excellent fighter. He is 18-3 since December 2002. His only losses in that period came against Ryo Chonan (one of the few fighers who has defeated Anderson Silva), Robbie Lawler (15-4), and Murilo "Ninja" Rua (Shogun’s brother).
Evangelista Santos is an average fighter with no great wins and a history of getting knocked out. 7 of his losses have come by either KO or TKO. That’s good for Villasenor who has 10 KOs/TKOs in his career.
My Pick: Joey Villasenor ($50 to win $23.80)

Gilbert Melendez is the #6 lightweight in the world. His only loss was against the #5 lightweight in the world.
Gabe Lemley is an average fighter who has won five fights in a row. He also has some knockout power (4 KOs in his career). That’s enough for me at +450
My Pick: Gabe Lemley ($50 to win $225)

I think Nick Diaz is an overrated fighter. He has had some big wins in his career: Drew Fickett, Robbie Lawler, Takanori Gomi (overturned because Diaz failed a drug test for marijuana), but he has one loss that really stands out to me. His most recent fight was a loss against Karl James Noons. Noons is a decent fighter with an overall record of 6-2, but Noons has no big wins other the Diaz fight.
Jae Suk Lim is a decent fighter. He has won two fights in a row, and only one of his wins is by decision. That is enough for me to pick him over Diaz who just possibly might be turning into a headcase.
My Pick: Jae Suk Lim ($50 to win $175)

Jake Shields is the #7 welterweight in the world, but I still think this line is odd. Shields has won nine in a row and is an excellent fighter, but Drew Fickett is a pretty good fighter too. Fickett is a UFC veteran with wins against Josh Koscheck, Keita Nakamura (14-3-2), Kurt Pellegrino (11-3-0), Josh Neer (23-6-1), and other good fighters. I don’t see what he did to deserve his unbelieveable +300 odds.
My Pick: Drew Fickett ($50 to win $150)
