EliteXC | Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock | Gambling Pick

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008
I sure used to look tough, didn't I?

I sure used to look tough, didn't I?

Heavyweights:

Ken “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” Shamrock (+250 at BetUs, +250 at BodogLife)
Name (Odds)
Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson (-350 at BetUs, -350 at BodogLife)

This October 4th Ken Shamrock will face Kimbo Slice as the main event of the EliteXC card, and I don’t think that Shamrock has a snowball’s chance of hell of winning. The last few years have not been kind of MMA legend Ken Shamrock. He has lost his last five fights in a row, and seven of his last eight. He hasn’t won since June of 2004 when he defeated MMA never-been Kimo Leopoldo. Shamrock’s last fight was a loss to the nobody Robert "Buzz" Berry at a Cage Rage event in March.

I know that Kimbo has only had three matches and that he almost lost to James "The Colossus" Thompson during his last fight, but I don’t think he has anything to worry about is his match against Shamrock. Shamrock’s only chance of winning is to take Kimbo to the mat, and because of the size difference I think there is very little chance of that happening. And even in the worse case scenario that it did happen, I think that Kimbo’s trainer Bas Rutten, who has faced Shamrock twice, has hopefully taught him enough to survive such a situation.

With the odds that Kimbo Slice is getting I would be very tempted to place the maximum bet on him. (Currently $100 with BodogLife, and I’m not sure what it is with BetUs).

My Pick: Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (-350)

Watch the Cung Le vs. Frank Shamrock Fight Free!

Monday, March 31st, 2008

If you still haven’t seen the Strikeforce middleweight title fight between Frank Shamrock and Cung Le you can watch it for free at one of my favorite MMA sites mmascraps.com.

mmascraps.com does a good job of posting events right after they happen. I don’t know if it’s legal or not, but it’s not my site so good for them!

Frank Shamrock (-220) Cung Le (+180) $50 EliteXC/Strikeforce Shamrock vs. Le Cung Le by TKO -$93.97

So…. this was a bad week. WEC 33 killed me. 7 out of 8 favorites won. That’s pretty ridiculous. My lock of the week Logan Clark came through. So my locks of the week are now 2/2. Cung Le was able to defeat Shamrock in what I consider to be the best fight of the week. They went to war, but Cung Le was able to pull out a victory after breaking Shamrock’s arm in the third round.

Bow Tie Betting – Friday Pick Recaps (3/28/08)

Friday, March 28th, 2008

The Strikeforce/EliteXC card scheduled for tomorrow night has gone to shit. Three of the fights on the televised card have been canceled. That means only two fights that I originally picked are still going to take place.

Cung Le (+180) vs. Frank Shamrock (-220)

I picked Le in this fight, because I thought +180 was too much. It seems like bodoglife.com agrees. Right now Cung Le is listed as +155. I don’t think his line will slip much lower. I actually think Le’s line could get a little better before tomorrow night.

Gilbert Melendez (-650) vs. Gabe Lemley (+450)

This line hasn’t moved at all.

I don’t have a “Value Bet of the Week” right now, but that could change before tomorrow night. There have been some replacement fights announced, and I am waiting to see if bodoglife.com puts the lines up.

The Bow Tie Aficionado Picks EliteXC/Strikeforce Shamrock vs. Le

Monday, March 24th, 2008

This EliteXC/Strikeforce event is scheduled for March 29th, 2008 and it will be broadcast live on Showtime at 9 PM ET. I already picked the Shamrock vs. Le fight a few days ago.

Middleweights:

Joey Villasenor is an excellent fighter. He is 18-3 since December 2002. His only losses in that period came against Ryo Chonan (one of the few fighers who has defeated Anderson Silva), Robbie Lawler (15-4), and Murilo "Ninja" Rua (Shogun’s brother).

Evangelista Santos is an average fighter with no great wins and a history of getting knocked out. 7 of his losses have come by either KO or TKO. That’s good for Villasenor who has 10 KOs/TKOs in his career.

My Pick: Joey Villasenor ($50 to win $23.80)

Lightweights:

Gilbert Melendez (-650)

Gilbert Melendez is the #6 lightweight in the world. His only loss was against the #5 lightweight in the world.

Gabe Lemley is an average fighter who has won five fights in a row. He also has some knockout power (4 KOs in his career). That’s enough for me at +450

My Pick: Gabe Lemley ($50 to win $225)

Welterweights:

Nick Diaz (-550)

I think Nick Diaz is an overrated fighter. He has had some big wins in his career: Drew Fickett, Robbie Lawler, Takanori Gomi (overturned because Diaz failed a drug test for marijuana), but he has one loss that really stands out to me. His most recent fight was a loss against Karl James Noons. Noons is a decent fighter with an overall record of 6-2, but Noons has no big wins other the Diaz fight.

Jae Suk Lim is a decent fighter. He has won two fights in a row, and only one of his wins is by decision. That is enough for me to pick him over Diaz who just possibly might be turning into a headcase.

My Pick: Jae Suk Lim ($50 to win $175)

Welterweights:

Jake Shields (-500)

Jake Shields is the #7 welterweight in the world, but I still think this line is odd. Shields has won nine in a row and is an excellent fighter, but Drew Fickett is a pretty good fighter too. Fickett is a UFC veteran with wins against Josh Koscheck, Keita Nakamura (14-3-2), Kurt Pellegrino (11-3-0), Josh Neer (23-6-1), and other good fighters. I don’t see what he did to deserve his unbelieveable +300 odds.

My Pick: Drew Fickett ($50 to win $150)
